Honoring America

With independence day on the horizon, it's time for all of us to take a little time to capture and celebrate the American spirit. What exactly is the American spirit? Well, that's different for everyone, which is one of the things that makes living in this country great.

For me, and I'm sure for many of our readers, there is nothing more American than watching Bo Jackson and Barry Sanders highlights. Please observe this tradition many times over the next few days. Here are some hand-selected videos to get you started:

as an aside, thanks to gfernandez20 for making this Barry Sanders highlight video. It is probably the best highlight tape I have ever found on youtube:

Also, if we are thinking in terms of great Americans, it's hard to find a better one than the late great Doctor Hunter S. Thompson. Thompson was also a huge NFL fan, which fits well with this post. Film director Alex Gibney, who also directed the documentary "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" among other popular films, has created a documentary: "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson".

Thanks to Smokey for sending us this NPR interview with Gibney from a couple of days ago. Also, here is the website for the film and below is the trailer:

The film opens, appropriately, tomorrow. Seeing it would certainly be in the American Spirit.

Happy 4th of July from Roomofzen.
