This is our first Oracle Speaks in several weeks. Remember, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns for the oracle, please e-mail us at oracle@roomofzen.com .
Today's question comes to the Oracle via e-mail from Ted, one of our staff writers.
"Dear Oracle,
Would you consider Jeremy Shockey a candidate for the Ewing Theory?
--Ted, Washington, DC"
--Note: If you are not familiar with the Ewing Theory, here is a link written by Bill Simmons that thoroughly explains it.
Ted, thanks for your e-mail. I see that, with the Wizards now out of the playoffs, you have focused 100 percent of your energy on the Redskins and what interesting strategies they will employ to finish behind the Giants in the standings once again this season. Seriously though, thanks for the question. You know I have a great amount of respect for all of the teams in the NFC East except the Dallas Cowboys.
As for your question, it's really hard to know. I feel like his impact was negative last year and we were better without him. But, he could be a positive force this year. What made him negative was the fact that he had no respect for Eli. He was always yelling at him and arguing with him and not running the routes that were called, putting Eli in bad positions and causing him to throw INTs.

So, if Shockey refuses to change his attitude towards Manning and his work habits (he refuses to leave Miami to come to New York until it's absolutely necessary. Look at how much working together in the summer helped the timing between Manning and Burress), then yes. An absolute Ewing Theory candidate.
If he decides to buy into the team and do what he can within our scheme to defend the championship, then he is just a guy that got hurt last year.
Also, let me just state for the record, I'd be much happier if the first of those two scenarios takes place. Shockey is an outstanding run blocker, and one of the biggest receiving threats in the league at that position. If he is willing to fall in line with the Giants' game plan, this offense would be very difficult to stop.
I just saw an NBA split-face ad with Tony Parker and Peja? Is that new? Whose idea was it? That's hideous!
